Hi writer friend,
Yesterday I deep cleaned my condo and baked two loaves of rye bread so you KNOW I’m on deadline today. (And yes, I’m a little behind after all that procrastinating.) It’s been a packed few weeks of work—which I’m very grateful for. I’m also kinda drained.
But these weeks of back-to-back deadlines are leading up to a nice chunk of time off in December. My goal is for December to be all about reflection and creative writing. And I want some time to not work at all. I’ll be working on this newsletter (of course!) but I won’t be taking many additional assignments.
What is your final month of the year going to look like?
This time of year has a tendency to fly by. But also, things can get reeeally slow with clients and pitching between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. So if you don’t have a set schedule of work for the next two months, I encourage you to consider how you can prepare for and embrace a slow down come December. Whether it’s by choice or a result of everyone else taking vacation, it’s a good time to embrace a lighter schedule—to make room for time-off, reflection, goal-setting, or maybe some applications for all of those fellowship and grant applications that are due in the new year. (I’ll be sending the 2022 list of fellowship and grant application deadlines to paid subscribers by December 1!)
So if you’re trying to take time off or just want to prepare for the possibility of less work in December, now is a really good time to consider what you need to get done in order for that time off to feel good.
In the meantime, I have two guest essays coming at you over the next two weeks and I’m really looking forward to sharing those. Also, I had my first piece published in Outside Magazine last week, and next week I’ll be sharing the pitch that got me the assignment.
For now, the usual. This week we have pitch opportunities with Popular Science, Health Magazine, SheKnows, and lots more. Let’s get to it…
